Mechanical Product Engineer | Low Power Electronic Systems | In-Office (Toronto) | $90k - $125k
Job description
About the Job
Our client is a leader in the development of smart home robotics, specializing in low-power systems and consumer electronics. Their innovative solutions are at the forefront of building high-quality, repeatable, and low-cost products that make life easier and more efficient for consumers. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team in the heart of the robotics industry. We are looking for a highly skilled Mechanical Product Engineer to bring their expertise in mechanical assembly and technical integration to the team.
The Role
As a Mechanical Product Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful integration of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems that drive the development of smart home robotics. You’ll focus on the technical, hands-on details of designing and refining products, ensuring they meet the strict tolerances, assembly requirements, and cost-efficiency standards needed for consumer electronics. This is a highly technical role that requires expertise in CAD, mechanical assembly, and product development.
Portfolio Requirement
Robotic Specific Knowledge:
- It is expected that the candidate show that he is familiar with the robotic actuation systems including the motor+gear+sensor.
- The candidate should demonstrate that he can identify and understand existing actuation and mechanism system integration of similar robotic joints.
- He should also be able to select and design standard components (bearings, keys, pins, etc.) based on the arrangement and loading conditions of the joints.
Technical Proficiency:
- CAD designs and 3D-printed or machined parts must be demonstrated by photos/videos of builds.
- Demonstrate relevant certificates and training and safety awareness.
- He should be able to demonstrate case studies or project that he has fixed issues and logical approaches that he has followed to do it.
Hands on experience:
- Be able to demonstrate experience with tools, equipment and CAD software.
- Demonstrate error free assembly, repair or maintenance experiences.
- Compliance with industry standards and ability to explain/document technical concepts (user manuals, guides).
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the design and engineering teams to refine and optimize mechanical systems for smart home robotics products.
- Develop and refine CAD designs, ensuring accurate and detailed representations of mechanical components.
- Focus on integrating mechanical and electrical components into cohesive, functional products.
- Conduct detailed analysis of components and materials, ensuring all systems meet the required tolerances for assembly and functionality.
- Work hands-on to refine assembly processes and ensure all parts are manufacturable with repeatable processes.
- Troubleshoot mechanical systems and optimize designs to meet performance and cost objectives.
- Assist in developing prototypes, and work closely with the manufacturing team to ensure smooth transitions from design to production.
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure the product meets functional requirements and is ready for mass production.
- Maintain rigorous documentation for design specifications, tolerances, and assembly instructions.
Requirements
- Portfolio Requirement: A portfolio showcasing detailed work on low-power electronic systems or consumer electronics, particularly within the context of robotics. The portfolio should focus on technical details, including component tolerances, mechanical designs, material specifications (e.g., hardened components, cooling processes), and the integration of both mechanical and electrical components. It should demonstrate an understanding of how systems come together in a repeatable, cost-effective manufacturing process.
- Proven experience working with low-power systems or consumer electronics, particularly in complex mechanical assemblies.
- Strong proficiency in CAD software and 3D modeling tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.).
- Detailed understanding of mechanical design principles, including tolerances, material selection, and system integration.
- Ability to analyze and troubleshoot mechanical systems and make adjustments as necessary.
- Hands-on experience with assembly and integration of mechanical and electrical components.
- Knowledge of product design for repeatable, low-cost production with a focus on high-quality output.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with robotics and consumer electronics is highly preferred.
