Senior Quest Designer | AAA Gaming | Level Design | Quebec (Remote) | $140k – $165k + Bonus (10%)


The Company

Our client, an innovative and developer-led game studio, is seeking a talented Quest Designer to join their team. This studio is focused on crafting immersive open-world experiences set in a captivating medieval fantasy world, emphasizing strategic gameplay and engaging narratives. The Role

They are looking for a skilled Quest Designer who can create immersive and captivating levels that align with the game’s vision. You’ll work closely with game design and art teams, taking levels from concept to prototype to ensure a seamless, engaging experience for players. Candidates should have AAA experience and be based in Quebec or willing to relocate, with the option for 100% remote work within the province. Expert French language skills are needed for effective team communication.


Responsibilities

  • Design and create engaging levels, including puzzles, challenges, and enemy encounters.
  • Work closely with the game design team to ensure level designs complement the game’s narrative and mechanics.
  • Use development tools and scripting languages to implement level designs, placing objects, enemies, and interactive elements for dynamic gameplay.
  • Continuously refine and iterate level designs based on feedback and playtesting results.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including artists, animators, programmers, and sound designers, to seamlessly integrate levels into the game.
  • Document level designs with detailed layouts, sketches, diagrams, and technical specifications, ensuring clear communication of design intent.
  • Test and debug levels to meet both design and technical standards, ensuring balance, pacing, and player engagement.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in level design, drawing inspiration from competitor games to enhance level designs.


Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in level design with a strong portfolio showcasing level design skills, creativity, and understanding of gameplay mechanics.
  • Proficiency with visual scripting tools like Unreal Blueprint or similar level editing software.
  • Strong understanding of layout and greyblock building, with insight into the spatial and architectural elements of level design.
  • Degree in Game Design or a related field.
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling software (e.g., Maya, 3ds Max) and level design tools (e.g., Hammer, Radiant) is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and effective communication abilities to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Passion for gaming and a deep understanding of different game genres, mechanics, and level design principles.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and manage deadlines effectively.
  • Expert proficiency in French and English
